about

A song inspired by the potential impermanence of art - particularly the stories from Amanda Petrusich's book "Do Not Sell at any Price" which detailed forever-lost blues 78rpm recordings.
Many of the metal masters (that weren't melted down during the war effort) were reportedly tossed into the Milwaukee River (along with crates of 78s). Folks have gone diving into the river since to try and find them... hence, "So we swim"

Want even more background? Hell alright... the original title of this song was "Yugoslavia" - the inspiration still around impermanence in general. I found it interesting that this small country came into being after WWI and then was broken up less than a hundred years later and ceased to be.

lyrics

Fleeting performance
Sound's impermanence
Etched in grooves in metal
Reduced to ammo and nothing left

So we swim

It'll all come and go
The way of Yugoslavia
In a bit of time
